Recent Poll Indicates Strong Backing for Trump’s Impeachment
A newly conducted poll has uncovered surprisingly high support for impeaching President Donald Trump. The survey found that nearly half of likely voters in battleground districts favor a second impeachment, with 45 percent showing firm backing.
Trump is already notable as the first U.S. president to be impeached twice. The House initially impeached him in December 2019 over a phone call with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where he allegedly sought military assistance in return for an investigation into Joe Biden. The Senate acquitted him in February 2020.
His second impeachment came after the January 6 Capitol riots, charging Trump with inciting insurrection. He was acquitted once again in February 2021.
Startling Poll Outcomes
The Lake Research Partners poll, commissioned by Free Speech For People, surveyed likely 2026 voters in pivotal congressional swing districts.
- 46% favor impeaching Trump
- 45% strongly support impeachment
- 56% disapprove of Trump’s presidential performance
The polling organization described the results as “extraordinary and unprecedented,” highlighting the unusually high support for impeachment so early in a presidential term.
Basis for a Third Impeachment
Legal experts behind the “Impeach Trump Again” initiative have identified 25 possible grounds. Some of the most frequently mentioned include:
Threats and Use of Military Force
Trump ordered federal law enforcement interventions in U.S. cities, including Washington, D.C., deploying the National Guard to maintain order. He later threatened to send forces to Chicago, raising alarms about the misuse of military power.
Targeting Political Opponents
Critics allege Trump has weakened federal agencies such as the DOJ and FBI, employing them against political adversaries. Federal prosecutor Erik Siebert resigned after refusing to pursue cases against rivals like NY Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey. Trump then appointed his inexperienced former attorney, Lindsey Halligan, to replace Siebert.
Attacks on the Media and Free Speech
Activists accuse Trump of undermining the First Amendment. He publicly threatened ABC affiliates broadcasting Jimmy Kimmel’s show after Kimmel criticized Trump’s handling of recent incidents, including the Charlie Kirk situation.
Harsh Immigration Enforcement
Trump has aggressively ramped up ICE raids and deportations, including efforts to deport refugee children without proper legal process. His new detention center in Florida, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” has sparked human rights concerns. Trump has pledged the largest deportation campaign in U.S. history, backed by $170 billion in funding.
Critics Warn of a Fundamental Threat
Courtney Hostetler, Legal Director at Free Speech For People, stated that Trump is dismantling democratic institutions and weakening the Constitution. John Bonifaz, the group’s co-founder, called Trump’s actions an “existential crisis” for American democracy and urged Congress to take action by initiating impeachment.
