Milwaukee Mourns Fallen Officer Kendall Corder
The city of Milwaukee is grieving the loss of Officer Kendall Corder, a 32-year-old six-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department, who died on June 29 from injuries sustained in a targeted ambush. His death has sent shockwaves through the department and the wider community.
The Fatal Ambush
On June 26, Officers Corder and Christopher McCray responded to a domestic violence call near 25th and Garfield. As they exited their squad car, they were met with a hail of gunfire. Authorities have since described the incident as a deliberate ambush. Both officers were critically wounded before they had a chance to respond.
A Partner’s Survival
Officer McCray, 29, survived after being shot in the back and foot. Just days after being released from Froedtert Hospital, he stood — with the support of fellow officers — to attend the memorial procession for his fallen partner.
A Hero’s Final Journey
Corder’s body was escorted in a solemn police procession from the hospital to the medical examiner’s office. Citizens lined the route, waving flags and holding signs in tribute, as Milwaukee collectively mourned the loss of one of its own.
Rising Threats to Law Enforcement
Officer Corder is the sixth Milwaukee officer killed in the line of duty since 2018. His death marks the fourth officer-involved shooting in the city this year — three of which occurred within just two weeks.
Suspect in Custody
Authorities have arrested 22-year-old Tremaine Jones in connection with the shooting. Jones reportedly has a history of legal issues, including a previous stolen vehicle case. As of now, formal charges related to the officer’s death are still pending.
Remembering Officer Corder
The Milwaukee Police Department honored Corder as a model public servant — a man who “put his life on the line every time he wore the badge.” His courage and sacrifice will not be forgotten, as the city adds his name to the solemn roll call of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
