In an interview with Fox News Channel following the criminal referral of New York Attorney General Letitia James, Attorney General Pam Bondi expressed her intention to pursue action against James regarding the alleged mortgage fraud spanning two and a half decades in which he seems to be implicated.
To provide context, William Pulte, Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), urged that charges be filed against NY AG James in a letter addressed to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Todd Blanche. In his correspondence, he stated, “In accordance with my authority as Director of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (‘U.S. Federal Housing’ or ‘FHFA’), I am referring the matter outlined below. As the regulator of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks, we take allegations of mortgage fraud or other criminal activities very seriously. Such misconduct threatens the safety and soundness of FHFA’s regulated entities and the stability of the U.S. mortgage market.” Subsequently, Director Pulte cited several instances of alleged misconduct by NY AG James, noting, “According to media reports, Ms. Letitia James has, on multiple occasions, falsified bank documents and property records to obtain government-backed assistance and loans, as well as more favorable loan terms. This may have included 1) misrepresenting her residence status for a home in Norfolk, Virginia, to secure a lower mortgage rate, and 2) altering property descriptions to satisfy strict requirements for government-backed loans and assistance.”
It was these allegations that AG Bondi addressed during her conversation with Bill Hemmer on “America’s Newsroom” on April 16. She expressed her appreciation for the investigation into NY AG James’s past actions and affirmed her commitment to ensuring accountability for what she termed the “woke Trump persecutor.”
To initiate the discussion, Hemmer quoted Director Pulte’s allegations and inquired, “The issue here is what property she owned and whether or not she owned it, whether or not she was married and w…”In her response, Bondi indicated that although she has not yet conducted a comprehensive review of the case details, she intends to do so and will ensure that James is held responsible. She remarked, “The most I know about the case I just learned from you. I saw it on breaking news this morning. This case was referred to us by Bill Pulte. We have not yet examined it. I asked about it just before I came out here. No one in my office has reviewed it yet. We haven’t looked into it. Naturally, we will be assessing it.” You can watch her comments here:
In a post on X regarding the issue, Josh Dunlap quoted Hemmer and commended the investigative efforts, stating, “Pam Bondi is set to review 25 years of mortgage fraud involving Letitia James. ‘This case originates from 25 years ago. Someone had to do some digging to uncover this.’ I am truly grateful to whoever undertook that investigation.”
A commenter on Hemmer’s post concurred, saying, “Absolutely, this level of thorough investigation is precisely what is required to hold corrupt officials accountable. If Pam Bondi conducts a thorough review, Letitia James’ extensive history of alleged mortgage fraud may finally be exposed. Twenty-five years of deceit does not disappear without leaving a trace.” Featured image credit: screengrab from the embedded video.
