In a disturbing event that has drawn both concern and admiration, local deputies responded to a 911 call from a young boy who reported that his father was allegedly driving while intoxicated.
According to the sheriff’s department, the call came in during the afternoon, with the child sounding scared yet calm as he told dispatchers that his father had been drinking before getting behind the wheel. The boy was able to give details about the car, including its make, current location, and direction of travel.
Deputies were dispatched right away and quickly located the vehicle, conducting a safe traffic stop without any issues. The father was taken into custody at the scene, where officers administered a series of field sobriety tests.
“A child showing this kind of courage and presence of mind may have helped prevent a serious or even deadly outcome,” said a spokesperson for the department. “We want to remind everyone — including kids — that if they ever feel unsafe or see someone else in danger, they should not hesitate to call 911.”
