A high-stakes confrontation in Colorado Springs ended in tragedy — and the entire moment was caught on a police bodycam, showing just how quickly a routine call can turn deadly.
It all began shortly after midnight when 911 dispatchers received multiple reports of a man acting erratically near local nightclubs — and possibly armed. Surveillance teams from the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) locked onto a suspect matching the description, prompting officers to respond immediately.
Around 1:49 a.m., police located the man near Pikes Peak Avenue. As officers approached, the bodycam footage shows the suspect entering a vehicle and pulling a handgun — complete with an extended magazine — from his waistband.
The officer makes contact and initially, the suspect seems to comply, raising his hands. But seconds later, everything changes. He suddenly spins and runs — reaching for his waistband as he flees.
The officer fires three rounds, striking the suspect in the back.
Paramedics responded quickly and attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later confirmed he was 26 years old.
Police recovered two firearms: a loaded Glock 17 with an illegal extended magazine found on the suspect, and a Glock 43 with a defaced serial number discovered inside the vehicle.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is now leading the investigation, and the District Attorney will review the officer’s actions to determine if the use of deadly force was justified under Colorado law.
