Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is under fire after a Democrat whistleblower accused him of authorizing the release of classified intelligence during the Trump–Russia probe in an effort to politically damage former President Trump. Newly declassified FBI documents appear to support aspects of the claim. If the allegations hold up, Schiff could face steep fines, up to 20 years in prison, and potentially career-ending repercussions.
According to the whistleblower, Schiff assured his staff the leaks would remain undiscovered and allegedly hoped to secure a CIA role if Hillary Clinton won the presidency. He also named Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) as a key figure in disseminating the leaks. The whistleblower says he was later fired for reporting the misconduct to the FBI, which he claims failed to act.
Schiff has not yet commented on the latest developments but has previously denied all similar allegations.
