She’s not seeking the spotlight — but lately, the spotlight is finding her.
Usha Vance, attorney, mother of three, and now the Second Lady of the United States, is quietly navigating her growing public role. In a rare, heartfelt conversation on The Citizen McCain Podcast with Meghan McCain, Usha opened up about family life, political transitions, and whether she’s even thinking about the possibility of becoming First Lady one day.

“Three or four years ago, I never imagined myself anywhere near political life,” Usha reflected. “It all happened so fast.”
“Just Along for the Ride” — No Future Plans Beyond Now
While many are already speculating about her husband, Vice President JD Vance, as a potential 2028 presidential contender, Usha says her focus is much closer to the present.
“People do ask,” she admitted when McCain brought up the First Lady speculation. “But I view this as a four-year chapter — one where I have responsibilities to my family, to myself, and to the country. That’s where my energy is going.”
The Vances are raising three children together:
- Ewan Blaine
- Vivek
- Mirabel Rose
“In an ideal world, someday I’d go back to living quietly, working in my field, and just being home with my family,” Usha added. “Right now, I’m just going with the flow and appreciating each day.”
Before relocating to D.C., Usha practiced law at Munger, Tolles & Olson but paused her legal career following JD Vance’s political rise.
Meghan McCain Reveals Her Own News
During the podcast, McCain surprised listeners by revealing she’s expecting her third child.
“I just entered my second trimester,” McCain shared.
As a fellow mom of three, Usha was quick to offer some warm encouragement:
“I love having three,” she said. “They form a little team. The oldest helps with the youngest, and the youngest is always trying to catch up to the others. Honestly, she’s been pretty independent from the start.”
What Matters Most: Family, Faith, and Staying Grounded
Usha made it clear that, for now, she isn’t plotting any political future — hers or her husband’s. Instead, she’s committed to the values that ground her: faith, family, and living in the moment.
“I’m just along for the ride,” she said with a calm smile.
