Sally Field Reveals Her Most Awkward On-Screen Kiss—And It’s Not Who You’d Expect

Sally Field, one of Hollywood’s most cherished and award-winning actresses, has amazed fans for decades with her powerful performances and emotional range. Even at 76, she continues to shine in roles such as those in Winning Time and Dispatches from Elsewhere. But in a recent candid moment, the two-time Academy Award winner shared a surprising behind-the-scenes memory.

Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Field was asked about her most uncomfortable on-screen kiss. With a laugh and a moment of hesitation, she teased, “Do I really have to say?” But after some gentle prodding from the host, she finally revealed that her least favorite on-screen kiss was with none other than Burt Reynolds—a revelation that caught many off guard, considering their off-screen romance in the late 1970s.

When asked to elaborate, Field explained that although there was plenty of buzz about their real-life chemistry, it didn’t quite translate during filming. “It just didn’t work for me while we were shooting,” she said. “Not what people might imagine.”

The pair co-starred in the classic film Smokey and the Bandit, which became a major hit and cemented their place as one of the most talked-about duos of the era. However, in more recent interviews, Field has opened up about the complicated nature of their relationship. In a conversation with Variety, she admitted they hadn’t spoken in the final years of Reynolds’ life. “He wasn’t someone I could have in my life,” she said plainly, underlining her need to prioritize her mental and emotional health.
