Video of Firefighter Comforting Young Girl at Car Crash Goes Viral Again

Note: This story was originally reported in August 2017 and is being shared once more due to its touching nature.

A firefighter in California has been widely praised for his kindness after a heartfelt moment caught on camera during a serious accident near San Diego. A large truck veered into oncoming lanes, colliding with two vehicles — one carrying a mother, her two young daughters aged 4 and 6, and another adult family member.

While medical teams treated the mother and the 6-year-old, who suffered a broken neck, firefighter paramedic Ryan Lopez from Heartland Fire & Rescue stayed by the side of the uninjured 4-year-old. Cameras captured Lopez gently holding and rocking the little girl, offering her water, and comforting her as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Lopez, who is a father himself, explained that the child “just wanted to feel safe and hold on.” Humble as ever, he said this kind of care is simply part of his job and that any first responder would have done the same.
