WATCH: Schumer Panics on the Senate Floor as DOGE Finds, Cuts Wasteful Spending

During a contentious appearance in the Senate, Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer expressed distress regarding the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and suggested that the department might reduce funding for Social Security or the Postal Service. Following the viral spread of a clip showcasing his emotional response, conservatives seized the opportunity to ridicule Schumer for his perceived lack of maturity. For context, President Donald Trump, in one of his initial executive orders, directed DOGE to eliminate wasteful expenditures and fraud within the federal government. Although DOGE has successfully conducted several high-profile fraud investigations, Democrats have consistently voiced their grievances about the department during the early months of Trump’s administration. Schumer’s comments were shared on X by notable conservative podcaster Benny Johnson on February 3, 2025. In this embarrassing segment, Schumer stated, ‘Also, understand that this is merely the beginning. If DOGE targets USAID today, you can be certain they will pursue another target tomorrow. Who knows? Perhaps it will be the Postal Service, the IRS, or even the Social Security Administration. They could be next, or possibly our national security agencies.’ In the comments section of Johnson’s post, conservatives derided Chuck Schumer for his dramatic language and lack of self-control. One comment read, ‘Schumer’s true concern isn’t about government shutdowns—it’s about losing power. For years, Democrats have depended on these agencies as political enforcers, safeguarding their allies while undermining their adversaries.’ The same commenter further remarked, ‘Now, the dynamics are shifting. If government agencies can be held accountable, if their misuse of power can be curtailed, if corruption can finally be dismantled—then indeed, let them fall one by one. That’s not a threat to America; that’s a long-overdue correction.’ Additionally, users questioned Schumer’s fear of accountability, with one comment stating, ‘It seems that Democrats and the Deep State are more worried about Elon Musk revealing their corruption than the corruption itself. THANK YOU, Elon.’It is not surprising that Chuck Schumer has expressed several contentious views regarding DOGE. As previously reported, he stated, ‘There is excessive government spending that must be reduced… While some spending is indeed wasteful, a broad approach is not the solution; we must evaluate each program individually.’ He continued, ‘We need to collaborate with Congress to identify wasteful expenditures for elimination, while also recognizing essential programs that are not wasteful. For instance, there has been an attempt to cut funding for community health centers within Medicaid.’ He concluded his statements with further criticisms, asserting, ‘These centers are among the most effective healthcare providers available. The effort to eliminate them is illogical. A broad-brush approach is being applied, resulting in cuts to vital services that American families rely on and support.’
